Most boards function more or less the same in terms of admin interface, but I will say that SMF is a hell of a lot easier to mod than PHPBB was.  Profiles didn't have a word count option until I went to SMF.  (PS, I added a novel name and novel genre entry...check it out!)

can I already put up the info for the coming event? (though, for now, I'd only be able to give the genre. I just can't find a title for my story... XD)

Absolutely.  The novel name will show up in your profile and by your posts (with wordcount) and the genre will show up in your profile.  I just put in the title of my first idea for this year, but I think I'm going to add a second cracknovel.  This two novels at once thing is addicting D:
